What is Coaching?

Life coaching is a tool to help people achieve and learn to create their ideal life.

Most people understand that a sports coach helps an athlete by:

  • Set and reach goals.
  • Stay focused.
  • Reach their personal best.
  • Achieve more from support and training.

Similar as your life coach I will:

  • Encourage you to set achievable goals important to you even goals you may have thought unattainable).
  • Help you to remain focused to produce faster and better results.
  • Encourage you to be more responsible in attaining your own personal best.
  • Provide you with the support, tools and goal setting to aid you to accomplish more.

My system of coaching is different to most as I use a unique 5 step program developed by me and Dr Scott Strader Ph.D On looking back at our past experiences if we want to and helping you get to the point that those memories no longer hold power of you, therefore changing your present and future outlook.

How can I help you accomplish this?

Through regular scheduled time by phone or face to face if local. I will focus on you and what you do and together help you to identify what is really important to you both in your personal and professional life.

I will help you gain the ability to recognize, replace and in some cases eliminate those blockages that may be holding you back from the success and desires you wish to attain.

As your coach I will enable you to find your own answers by:

  • Asking certain questions.
  • Being direct and honest
  • Making specific request.
  • Goal setting.
  • Listening and non judgmental.
  • Being there for you each step of the way.
  • Helping you to see how you can achieve your goal.
  • All of the above including the 5 steps which are - Attitude, Awareness, Acknowledgment, Acceptance, Allowing.

Remember it is the choices you make produce the life you live!

Coaching is like having a personal trainer for you life!

What coaching is not all about?

Coaching is not therapy, counseling or psychology. Although past events and feelings are taken into account coaching focuses on the ‘now’ the ‘present’ and how oriented the client is to working towards recognizing and defining what it is they wish to work towards and aiding them to achieve that. By incorporating the five steps you have a stronger foundation for continued growth.

Coaching is not consulting or an expert in the clients’ life’ and therefore does not give the client solutions for their problem but helps the client draw on their own knowledge and insight to help them find the solutions that work for them.

Tony Grant from Sydney University once said: “Therapy is like helping someone with a broken leg to walk again. coaching is helping them to run the four minute mile”.

Benefits of working with a life coach

People from all walks of life can find coaching beneficial, from business owners, parents, youth, men, women and entrepreneurs. People who desire change but are unsure of how or what direction to take. Whether this be professional or personal or both. Coaching enables people to gain a sense of balance in their life and work towards fulfillment. People who wish to learn how to manage stress and in some cases eliminate it.

What you need to know for coaching to be successful

  • The client acknowledges that there is a gap between where they are now in their life and where they would like to be.
  • The client is willing to learn and prepared to take action.
  • Understanding those two factors in yourself will show your that you are now ready to take the next step and work with a coach who will help you develop a plan of action to help you on the road to achieving your goal.

As you progress and identify what you want in your life and start to feel you are getting results, you can see for yourself how changing the way you may of thought and taking one step at a time you are responsible for creating the life you want.

With learning to set goals for yourself and learning how to deal with problem areas more efficiently, you find you have more time to be productive.

As your coach I would help you work on things that may be draining your energy or cause you stress. By finding the right coping mechanism and by learning to focus on what does give you joy. As a result of this your energy begins to flow and your stress decreases.

Eventually you will be able to identify or clarify what you really want and can begin to set goals and see the way forward. You are more likely to take action when you can see for yourself that your goals are achievable.

Our coaching partnership with your commitment and with the aid of my tools and techniques will help you to more efficient and effective with time.

What you can expect of me as your coach

I coach via the telephone or face to face depending on personal choice, for some the telephone is the easiest as it saves time and money as you don’t have to travel to an appointment. Some clients feel more relaxed in their own home or office. As long as for the appointed time you are free of distraction you are better able to focus.

However, I coach face to face if preferred and possible along with email. As your coach my focus and commitment will be on you and what you are trying to achieve with your life: You are important to me as the goals you set.

However, I will encourage, challenge and question you along with making request, actively listening and giving you feedback. My aim is to help you stay focused in regard to your own goals and vision you have for your life and break any repetitive cycle using the 5 step program.

I will be honest and direct and when I notice a different tone in your voice for example I will ask you about it. I will never insist you share anything you wish not to with me, but often these are the very issues that need to be addressed.

Coaching will only be of benefit if you are prepared to give it your attention and do your part. However, if this may not always be possible I will do what I can to help you stay focused and get back on course.

    Requests

There will be times when I will make a specific request of you to help you move forward, for example: “ will you do X by next week?” You may tell me “no, but I can do Y by next week, or weeks’. Rarely do clients decline to try to do a request if they realize it is always open to negotiation and the importance of why I request what I do.

After each session there will be homework so to speak. Request for you to take action on something we have decided or you have decided you wish to try for and I will support you and hold you accountable to carry out those actions. It may be a small task such as thinking about a topic or it may be much larger. It really is up to you.

    I am here for you.

Coaching is a partnership and therefore I will want to share your highs and lows with you and support you. I am happy to share my experiences, feelings and beliefs and knowledge I have with you if it is relevant and ethical. However, I will not force my beliefs or values on you and will always respect you as your own individual with your own personal views and opinions.

You can email, or ring me if you have made a breakthrough or a particular problem you need support.

How to get the most from your coaching

Try to come to each coaching session prepared. Within this booklet is a weekly summary form for you to use before each session. By spending 10-20 minutes on this form in setting goals, recognizing obstacles and by evaluating your actions for the week. You can then email or post this to me 24 hours before our session, this will save you valuable time and our coaching session will be more productive.

Coaching can help during any times of change and uncertainly. By using tools and techniques we can use to work out your ideas, goals and values. This site contains coaching preparing forms that will really motivate you with this before your free session. If you continue after that with your coaching you may continue to use this form.
